Belted Kingfisher

Fall seems to be arriving in the Northland today. We have HUGE winds and the temperature fell four degrees in the hour “after” the sun rose, which is unusual. I actually was outside long for sunrise (before 5 am) trying to find my owls. My hope was to take some photographs of Hoot against the setting full moon, but I think the howling wind and rain which arrived around 2 am pushed the owls into deep cover.

After the sun rose, I found this cooperative Belted Kingfisher. It’s always fun when a bird is more interested in eating than worrying about your presence. As a fyi, I definitely used my Canon SX70 to take these kingfisher photos.
