Snowy Owl photographed yesterday evening (December 22nd). I was dumbfounded when the sun came out at sunset. In a few hours a blizzard will hit the Northland.

    1. Ray and everyone else … both sexes of Snowy Owls have dark marks when they are first born. This allows the birds to be camouflaged given nests are on the ground on the tundra. As these owls age the males become “snow white”; females keep their dark marks. This this owl is either a female or shop immature male. Snowy Owls breed starting about three years old. Male Snowies will start be mostly all white by this age.
