What a way to end 2022! My New Year’s Eve morning surprise! I was hiking in the woods near my son’s house in southern Wisconsin when the robins wintering in the area (no snow!) were obviously very alarmed. Shortly thereafter I discovered why the robins were so upset … this Long-Eared Owl!

In addition, this Red-Tailed Hawk was hunting the area. Given there is zero snow on the ground in the Milwaukee area, I have seen an amazing number of Red-Tailed Hawks in the past 24 hours.
That’s one gorgeous owl and a wonderful way to begin the new year! A brilliant year is wished for you!
Beautiful photos of a long eared owl. The color and detail are splendid. Did you use SX70? Your photos and review are nudging me toward that camera over other bridge cameras. Thanks for sharing your photos. Happy new year.
The LEO photographs were taken with my Sony A6300, but the Snowy Owl male take-off images from just a few days ago were taken with my Sx70. The Canon works well on bright days, but not so good in dark conditions.
