With my surgery and recovery, I have fallen waaaay behind in posting. Just prior to going under the knife Molly and I spent some time down in SE Minnesota, on a friend’s farm near Lanesboro. As I have noted, now is the time to enjoy wildflowers in rural Minnesota (see part 1).
Right now young birds have fledged everywhere and are chasing their parents demanding food. The youngsters often look like adults, but flap their wings madly in the begging mode. A few images from the weekend just before my operation …
Molly and I have spent the last few days on a friend’s farm in SE Minnesota near Lanesboro. As I have noted recently in this blog, now is the time to get out in the countryside and enjoy the the explosion of colors. I found that while black-eyed susans are predominant up north, down in southern Minnesota an amazing number of tiger lillies are thrown into the equation. In fact birding has been so good over the past week, I am falling way behind on potential posts. Here is a starter!
Rainbows and Lightning

Molly and I visited friends down on their farm in SE Minnesota. As we drove south winter was left behind, and eventually we discovered this rare thing called Spring! It is amazing what getting away from Lake Superior and its cold waters will accomplish. One treat for me over the weekend was finding an Eastern Towhee. I’ve only seen this type of bird once in my life and then it was the much less colorful female. My two videos document two of the different Towhee songs I heard.
In addition, after the Towhee images but before the videos in this post, you will find three Google Searches you may wish to bookmark on your computer or mobile device. In an earlier life when I worked in software I became a search expert. These three searches will let you explore birding news both in Minnesota, and America. Descriptions are next to each search query.
