Goosed while Cycling!

407 miles via bicycle complete in the Norwegian Arctic! Given the crummy weather forecast and my sub-par vision, for the next two days we are nixing our final two days of cycling in favor or a rental car … then it will be a four day / three night ride on the Norwegian Coastal Ferry, Hurtigruten. We will steam up over the top of Norway to Kirkenes right next to the Russian border.

Today I found a HUGE flock a migrating Greylag Geese. Birds have been few and far between. Most summer birds are already south of the Arctic. Bugs are non-existent, and all the locals tell us we have been darned lucky with the weather. In 16 days of riding we only experienced rain twice. Normally it was sunny, and 50 to 60F. For a Minnesotan these temperatures were ideal … nice cool rides.

My thanks to Heather-Marie and family for staying in our house. I hope your family has managed to get some of the thimbleberries before all the wild animals and birds consumed same.

Greylag Geese

I would never dream of Snuplassing!!!

Molly riding our final road … no traffic, just beautiful fjords and mountains.

Arctic Race of Norway 2019

Molly and I are bike touring in the Norwegian Arctic. After 13 days and 289 miles behind us we finally get a rest day, and just by dumb luck find ourselves watching the Arctic Race of Norway’s 1st Stage near Reine in the Lofoten Islands. In the second image the motorcyclist is looking back towards the Peloton. The motorcyclist is just ahead of the lead rider.

Also seen this morning!

Lucious Lofoten

No birds today, but instead a visual representation of 35 miles of idyllic bicycle touring in the Norwegian Arctic. The traffic was light, and the scenery was awesome! Please also browse to my wife’s blog. While I am a photographer, she is a writer. Molly writes about our experiences. Read about our entire ride including road reports.

Getting ready to start the day’s ride

Classic early morning fjords and mountain vistas

Houses and sheds with sod roofs are common

Taking a break about 20 miles into the ride

The only establishment during today’s ride. Might this cafe sell Diet Coke?

Arrrgh … only Pepsi

Finishing up the day’s ride … the vista, but with one BIG climb is yet to come
