Six Minutes in Paradise!

These two images were taken six minutes apart at dawn this morning on the North Shore of Lake Superior … just before dawn and at the moment of sunrise. It is a special time to be outside, which was 5:15 am this morning!

After my lupine photo shoot, I worked my way back down the shore towards Duluth, and my home. As you see, photographic opportunities continued!

Day 342: New Years Eve Dawn Magic at Dawn!

The last day of the year was a magical time for photography. The day dawned cold with the prospect of a fantastic sunrise out over Lake Superior. Although I started out on my birding photography rounds before sunrise, I quickly adjusted my plans and enjoyed the year’s last dawn. Quite frankly experiences like the cold seasmoke dawn over Lake Superior are part of what makes early morning birding so much fun.

Day 315: A Superior Snowy Owl!

I spent some quality time with my “Superior Snowy” just before sundown … thus many of the photos with the “golden light”. The call and flight sequence were caused by some invading crows whose presence was not appreciated by the owl!.

I think I will personally give this snowy the nickname, “Runway”. As that is where he often hangs out (see last photo taken from a distance). The “Superior” in the blog post comes from the fact this owl hangs out in Superior, Wisconsin.
